How does your team support my practice through this model?
Our experienced Epic team provides workflow discovery, implementation, training, go-live support onsite, and post go live support via local account management and 24/7 help desk access. With 12 years of experience locally supporting Epic, we are committed to you and your practice.

How does UC San Diego Health handle data migration from my previous EMR to Epic?
Specific patient demographics and standard continuity of care document data is migrated to the Community Connect platform. By law, a practice needs to maintain records for seven years. Practices can choose to archive these records by using an archive vendor or keep the previous EMR in view-only mode.

Am I able to view patient records from other instances of Epic?
Epic’s Care Everywhere functionality allows users to easily view records for shared patients from other health systems using Epic across the country, supporting better coordination of care. The level of patient information available from each Epic user health system may vary based on their configuration, including encounter summaries and patient level information such as problems, allergies, medications, immunizations, histories.

How does billing work through Epic?
Epic’s professional billing module is included for your practice to use. Your billing/financial data is not visible to UC San Diego Health or other Epic Community Connect users.

I outsource my billing - can I choose not to use Epic as my billing solution?
Yes, a file containing demographic and charge data can be generated from Epic and sent to your billing vendor in a secure manner for them to process.

Does Epic have practice management functionality?
Yes, Epic includes both electronic medical record and practice management application modules.

What happens to my subsidy if I choose to end my affiliation with UC San Diego Health?
UC San Diego Health is legally able to provide subsidy for affiliates in our Clinically Integrated Network (CIN) or Accountable Care Organization (ACO). If the agreement is severed, our ability to subsidize would terminate. Your practice could choose to remain on Epic without the subsidy.

What happens to my data if I choose to end my affiliation with UC San Diego Health?
All release of information is handled by your office. Data remains with UC San Diego Health. UC San Diego Health will provide a complete record of patient information from Epic pertaining to your practice via portable media or PDF.

Am I able to refer patients to other health system providers while using UC San Diego Health Community Connect?
Yes – the EMR offers flexibility to send patients where you choose for their health care services.

Do you have a patient portal?
Yes- Our patient portal is robust and offers your patients many options in managing their care with your practice.
